What a reversal really signals
A reversed card is the upright card under different conditions: blocked, internal, delayed, weakening, or softening. The core meaning does not flip. The Lovers reversed does not become hatred; it becomes misalignment, hesitation, or a love that needs honesty.
Common reversed readings
- ✦Blocked — the energy is present but stuck.
- ✦Internal — the lesson is being lived privately.
- ✦Excess or deficiency — too much or too little of the card's quality.
- ✦On its way out — the energy is leaving the situation.
When to read reversals
If reversals feel overwhelming as a beginner, read every card upright for a few weeks. Add reversals only when you are comfortable noticing nuance. Many experienced readers read reversals as intensity dials, not separate cards.
